Clean the nickel-plated metal with a water-based degreaser, using a coarse sponge. Rinse the degreaser off with wet rags and dry the metal with towels. Step 2 Protect portions of the metal you do not want painted by covering them with painter's tape.
01/12/2014 Although difficult, coating nickel-plated parts can be done, but you must first follow a few preparation basics. I do not know what grade of nickel you are wanting to coat, but as a general rule, you will still want to first clean the plated
01/12/2005 01/12/2005 Some of these products are nickel plated. We apply clear UV-curable and thermoset-acrylate coating to these products. There is no adhesion problem with the copper parts. However, the coatings do not always adhere to the nickel plated parts and this has become a quality control nightmare. V. K. Answer: Adhesion to nickel plating can be a problem. As I understand it, and
Clean the nickel-plated metal with a water-based degreaser, using a coarse sponge. Coat the nickel plating with a galvanised metal-etching spray primer. Coat the primed nickel plating with spray enamel. Spray in a side-to-side, sweeping motion, keeping the spray nozzle at least 8 inches from the nickel plating.
Before the nickel plating will accept paint, it requires pre-treatment with a special acidic primer, formulated with the ability to etch durable metallic surfaces. Once you've properly conditioned the nickel-plated metal, it can be painted. Apply a durable enamel to avoid flaking. Apply the enamel in the correct manner so you won't be disappointed in the final finish. Before you paint nickel
Nickel plating is often a decorative choice for accent pieces around the home because of its smooth matte finish -- indeed, many homeowners choose the finish because they do not have to paint it. If you decide to paint over a nickel plated finish, you have to prepare it properly so that the paint wi
"Paint Adhesion to Electroless Nickel Plating Problem" An ongoing discussion from 2005 through 2014 . . . 2005 . Q. I have Nickel Plated Aluminum housings that we then prime and paint with a Green Matte CARC paint. The paint adhesion is always a problem. We do a good job pre-cleaning the nickel plate and we also use a "scotch-brite" pad to roughen the surface prior to applying the primer. But
14/04/2017 The shiny parts are probably nickel plated. You can't easily repair electroplating yourself; you need to send them to a plating shop. If that is unaffordable, you could perhaps compromise by painting the accents with a high temperature silver paint for car exhaust systems. It won't really look like nickel plating, but it may provide the contrast you seek. Good luck. Ted Mooney, P.E. Striving
07/04/2015 on an A-25 is nickel plated. The gear case, ( also refered to as lower unit or gear foot ) in my experience is polished. aluminum, (not plated ) At least they are on my two A-25’s. As far as removing paint without disturbing the nickel plating, I personally have had sucess soaking the part in just plain old gasoline.
02/04/2016 Applies to: Used as an undercoat for chromium, tin plating, silver plating and gold plating. Ideal for: machine parts, springs or things where movement is required. Dull nickel plating is also ideal for joining applications that entail brazing, soldering or laser welding, and is known to be the chosen coating for the restoration of vehicles pre 1933.
Nickel-plated metal provides an attractive, shiny finish when it is clean and free of tarnish. Prepare a solution one part water to one part ammonia in a container large enough to place the nickel-plated items. Submerge the items in the solution for 30 minutes. Remove the items from the solution and scrub them with fine grade steel wool.
29/09/2011 Stripping of parts for recovery because of plating defects is usually unplanned. As such, control and preparation are usually minimal. When parts require stripping to remove a defective plate, there is usually a rush to get the job done. Improper cleaning or activation of a plated component destined for the stripping tank can often be the
06/02/2011 Hi all,A "youtuber" friend gave me a tip on how to darken nasty modern zinc plated nuts and bolts. These can look out of place on old machines, particularly
Popular among automotive manufacturers today is a zinc-nickel plating solution that inhibits the formation of rust externally and on internal parts, including catalytic converters and plastic parts. Electronics Plating Gold plating is often used in the electronics industry because it provides levels of electrical conductivity and resistance to corrosion required by electronics, including

If you want to paint zinc-plated metal, pre-treat it with a primer, specifically formulated with acidic qualities that allow it to etch durable zinc plated metallic surfaces. Apply the base and finish coats, using the proper brush, or the finish may dry marred with brush marks. 01/10/2004 The cost of chrome plating something is not cheap, so I think you first need to understand exactly what the finish is and why your customer is getting these parts plated to begin with. Not everything that looks like “chrome” is chromium plated. For instance, many parts that are nickel plated have a microdiscontinuous (or microcracked) chromium coating over them. But the bright, shiny part
Oct 26, 2016 Before you paint nickel-plated metal, you must prepare the surface for paint adhesion. Nickel plating is a durable, nonporous surface. This makes it a poor candidate for painted finishes.
15/06/2018 Electroless Nickel Plating (ENP) is the deposit of a nickel-alloy coating by chemical reduction without the electric current that’s used in electroplating processes. The majority of ENP for engineering purposes is a nickel phosphorus deposit containing 2 to 14% phosphorus. The higher the phosphorus content the greater the corrosion resistance, however the compromise on increased

01/12/2019 Shops tend to charge a lot to blue a nickel plated gun because it takes a lot of time to get the plating off and prepare the parts for the bluing tanks. Further, if you don't get all the copper plating off before putting the parts in a hot bluing tank, you will "volcano" the bluing salts and render the remaining salts worthless. Ask me how I know. If you want the gun replated with nickel, the
